Also known as, How Not To Kill Yourself Going At The Speed Of Light
At first, you stare at it longingly. You dream of what it will be like, how exhilarating it will be. How awesome the stories will be when you tell your grand kids.
“Kids, when I was your age, I went the speed of light, and lived!”
Sure grandpa…
“But I did?! it was so fast, that my tears [ of laughter... of course ] were freezing to my cheeks. And when the fog from my glasses went away, I found myself sitting at the bottom. And I don’t even remember reaching the bottom!”
It was that awesome.
But, I still wasn’t even up the hill yet, and I was fantasizing the stories I will tell [ Cause, that's we dad's do... we prepare ]. So I trudge up the hill walking along side my most favorite oldest daughter. With my most favorite youngest daughter walking just ahead. While my most favorite youngest son was trudging way up ahead.
I have to be extra careful with my oldest who came out of heart surgery the month prior so I was taking special note of how she was acting. In all of her cute pinkness, she was making her way up just fine. And we reached the top. It was like making it to the top of Mt Everest. We could see out across the land. Wind was blowing snow all around us, and was blowing the sleds. It was cutting through my scarf and hat, but I was ready…. And, It will be Awesome! [ Note the emphasis... it will be! ]
“Dad…. I’m scared”
What for? See how blazingly freakishly fast everyone is going? It may be a little painful [ Unless you wreck, then all bets are off ] … at all. You will fly down there and not even know your done?
“Your not helping!”
Okay, I will go down with you.
See we just sit in like this, you ready, and then just push yourse….
AHHHHHHHHHHHH
Holy crap! Holy crap! Holy Freaking Crap! I’m going to die. I’m going to die!!!!
And then the unthinkable happens. Just as your screaming makes you sound like a sissy, your sled spins and comes to a near stop… not stopped of course, or I wouldn’t have a story… near stopped…
As I felt all good about that moment, I unfortunately was facing the hill backwards. And like every good surfer knows, you never turn your back on the wave. And off I went.
HOOLLYYYY CRAAAAPPPPP!
I was going so fast that even rolling off would of hurt. So I rode… Yes, I rode. I stopped screaming like a little girl and enjoyed the ride…
The wind blowing in my hair, the lightly brisk breeze flicking at my nose. My eyes closed as I could hear the laughter..
And then it all stopped, and I just laid there.
Owww……
“Dad! You okay?”
Yeah, I just had the best dream… I was on the PCH and I could hear the ocean, and see the waves. I felt the warmth of the sun… oh the sweet, sweet warmth…

Thanks for the laughs, that was awesome!!

I love it. We don’t have a lot (any) good sledding hills in Charlotte, NC, which kind of makes sense as we also don’t have a lot of snow. There was one freak storm last year…a whopping four inches, and we built a hill. Oh, such happy memories. Know what? I think you helped me find my next post. Yay, Travis!
